Pause Cat Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25 October 2026
Pause Cat is an Android app made by Snekanth BABU ("I", "me"). When you stay in an app you picked for longer than you wanted, a cartoon cat walks onto your screen and gently gets in the way until you leave. This policy explains what the app looks at, what it keeps, what leaves your phone, and what never happens.
The short version: Pause Cat checks which app is open and for how long, on your phone, to know when to send the cat. It never sees what's on your screen. There is no account, no ads, no analytics in the app and no AI features. What the app checks stays on your phone; I never receive it. Purchases go through Google Play.
What the app uses on your phone, and why
| What | Why | Where it stays |
|---|---|---|
| Which app is in front, and when (Android "Usage access") | To know when you've stayed in one of your chosen apps past your limit, to make the cat leave when you switch away, and to know when the cat may drop by: on your home screen, or in the apps and at the times you picked for visits. | On your phone. Read about once a second, only while the screen is on and you've turned watching on. Not stored, except in the visit log below. |
| When you unlock your phone | So your cat can say good morning or welcome back. | On your phone. |
| The apps you chose, your time limits, and where and when the cat may drop by | So the cat knows which apps to watch and where it may visit. | On your phone. |
| A short visit log (app, when the cat came, how far it got) | "Recent visits" in the app. Only the latest entries are kept. | On your phone. |
| Your cat's diary, gifts, fish coins, friendship, outfits, rooms, toys and settings, and your name if you tell your cat | The parts of the app you see and collect. | On your phone. |
| What you've bought | So your cats and outfits stay unlocked. It is checked again with Google Play when you open the app. | On your phone. |
| Where you last tapped the cat's widget | So the cat can come out of the widget on your home screen. | On your phone. |
| The list of apps with a launcher icon | So you can pick apps to watch or for visits. | Read when you pick; not stored. |
| Whether you're in a call, in Do Not Disturb or battery saver, using TalkBack, or charging | So the cat stays away during calls, quiet times and battery saver, and naps on the widget while you charge. | Read when needed; not stored. |
Pause Cat does not read your screen content, notifications, messages, keystrokes, contacts, location, photos, microphone or camera, and it does not use an accessibility service.
What leaves your phone
The app itself sends nothing to me. Only these things leave your phone, and only in these ways:
- Purchases. Optional extras (more cats, outfits, packs, treats) are sold through Google Play. Google processes the payment under Google's privacy policy; I never see your payment details. Google shows me order details in Google Play Console, such as the order number, the product, the price, its status and the country.
- Google Play's billing library. The part of Google Play built into the app to handle purchases may send technical diagnostics (app performance and diagnostics data, such as connection problems and how purchase requests behave) to Google, under Google's privacy policy. It cannot be switched off, and I don't receive it.
- Google Play's review prompt. If the app asks you to rate it, Google Play shows its own dialog. What you type there goes to Google Play, which publishes it as a review; the app never sees it.
- Things you share. If you use Share (a video or GIF of your cat, or telling a friend), Android's share sheet sends it to the app you choose.
- Reviews and emails. If you review Pause Cat on Google Play, Google publishes it and I can read and reply. If you email me, I receive your email address and message.
Pause Cat does not sell or share your personal information, and it shows no ads.
Backup and new phones
Pause Cat opts out of Android's cloud backup, so its data is not copied to your Google account. On a new phone your purchases come back through Google Play; everything else starts fresh.
This website
www.pausecat.com is hosted on GitHub Pages by GitHub, Inc. (USA). When you open it, GitHub's servers receive your IP address and the usual details a browser sends, and may keep them in logs for security, as any web host does. GitHub may process this in the USA; how it handles and protects that data is in GitHub's privacy statement. I need a host to put the site online (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). I don't see who visits. The site sets no cookies, has no analytics, and loads nothing from other websites: even its fonts are its own.
Keeping and deleting your data
Everything the app keeps lives in its private storage on your phone, which other apps can't read. Clear the app's storage in Android settings, or uninstall it, and it is gone. Support emails are kept only as long as needed to help you, then deleted. Purchase records are kept by Google, and by me in Google Play Console as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU or the UK GDPR), you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its use, to receive a copy, and you can complain to your data protection authority. Because the app's data stays on your phone, you control it there directly. For anything I do hold, such as your emails or purchase records, write to me at theluckydude777@gmail.com. I use emails to answer you and keep purchase records to meet legal obligations.
If the law treats me as the controller of the data the app keeps on your phone, the controller is Snekanth BABU, Germany, theluckydude777@gmail.com.
Children
Pause Cat is meant for people aged 13 and over. It is not directed at children under 13, and it collects nothing from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted at this address with a new date, and important changes are mentioned in the app's release notes.
